Artificial Intelligence has become remarkably good at generating beautiful images.
What it still struggles with is telling a story.
Generating a single illustration is one thing. Creating an entire comic page with coherent characters, consistent environments, cinematic composition and narrative continuity is a completely different challenge.
That is precisely the problem we set out to solve with Presence Director.
Today we’re excited to share the very first public preview of this upcoming module.
From Prompt Engineering to AI Directing
Most AI image generators follow a simple workflow.
You write a prompt.
The model produces an image.
Then you repeat the process over and over again, hoping that the characters remain recognizable and that every scene somehow fits together.
Director takes a completely different approach.
Instead of thinking in terms of prompts, it thinks in terms of stories.
A written scene becomes a sequence of comic panels.
Characters maintain their identities.
Locations become reusable assets.
Objects can persist throughout an entire narrative.
The system is designed to behave much more like a movie director than an image generator.
More Than Image Generation
The demonstration released today only shows the first stage of development.
The production version will introduce several major components currently under active development, including:
- Persistent Character Database
- Reusable Locations and Object Library
- Optional LoRA-based character consistency
- Editable scene management
- Single-panel regeneration
- User-selectable artistic styles
- Continuity management across entire projects
- Reusable production assets
These features are intended to transform Director into a genuine production environment rather than a simple AI art generator.

Built Around Local AI
Like every Presence module, Director is designed to run locally.
No subscriptions.
No mandatory cloud services.
No dependence on a single AI provider.
As the open-source ecosystem evolves, Director will be able to integrate newer image generation models, allowing users to benefit from future advances without redesigning their creative workflow.
The rendering engines shown in today’s preview should therefore be considered examples rather than final choices.
Looking Beyond Comics
Although Director is currently focused on graphic novels and comics, the underlying architecture was intentionally designed to be reusable.
The same production pipeline that generates comic pages today can eventually power animated storyboards, cinematic sequences and AI-assisted video production.
In other words, comics are only the beginning.
Director is becoming the foundation for an entire family of AI creative tools.
We look forward to sharing much more in the coming months.
